How to load an FMS flight plan into the Zibo 738 ?

Loading a flight plan into the Zibo 738 is a straightforward process once you know where to go. This tutorial will guide you through the steps to successfully load your flight plan into the Zibo 737-800’s FMS. Follow the instructions below to get your route set up quickly and efficiently.

How to load FMS into Zibo 738

Step-by-step instructions

  1. Open the FMS
    • Locate the Flight Management System (FMS) in the center console of the cockpit. You can access the FMS by clicking on the screen or using the designated keyboard shortcut in your simulator setup.
  2. Navigate to the Route Page
    • Once the FMS is active, press the RTE (Route) button on the FMS keypad to navigate to the Route Page.
  3. Enter Your Departure and Destination Airports
    • On the Route Page, you’ll need to fill in the departure and destination airport ICAO codes:
      • ORIGIN: Enter the ICAO code for your departure airport.
      • DEST: Enter the ICAO code for your destination airport.
    • Example: If you’re flying from Mankato Regional (KMKT) to Denver Airport (KDEN), enter KMKT and push ORIGIN, then type KDEN and push DEST.
  4. Type the Flight Plan Filename
    • In the CO ROUTE field, enter the filename of your flight plan without the file extension (e.g., .fms).
    • The flight plan file should be stored in your X-Plane’s FMS plans directory (usually found under X-Plane/Output/FMS plans).
    • Example: If your flight plan is named KMKTKDEN02.fms, simply type KMKTKDEN02.
  5. Load the Flight Plan
    • After typing the filename, press the CO ROUTE button (2LSK: second Line Select Key on the left side of the FMS screen) to load the flight plan into the system.
    • Press the 6RSK button labeled ACTIVATE to activate the flight plan.
  6. Execute the Flight Plan
    • Press the EXEC button to activate and confirm the flight plan. Your route is now loaded, and the aircraft is ready to follow the programmed flight path.

Common issues

Fix route discontinuities into Zibo 738

Even if the flight plan includes the correct waypoints and the AIRAC cycles are synchronized, you might still encounter route discontinuities. This is a common issue with Zibo 738. There are two ways to clear discontinuities:

  1. Type the missing waypoint into the scratchpad, and then click the left-side button where the discontinuity is located to enter the waypoint at that location in the flight plan.
  2. Often times, the waypoint right below the discontinuity is the one you want to go to next. Click on the left-side button beside that waypoint to copy it into the scratchpad, then click on the line with the discontinuity to move that waypoint up to that line.

Both methods effectively clear most discontinuities, assuming your nav data is not too old.

Example: in the screenshot below, the second case applies : click on LANDR (just below right the discontinuity), once LANDR is on scratch pad (bottom left of the FMS) click on the discontinuity line to fix it.
